ABG strengthens Data Capacity through TOT program with NSO and UNFPA

The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) in partnership with the National Statistical Office (NSO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) successfully completed an intensive four-days Training of Trainers (TOT) program on Data Literacy in October.

The program represents a strategic investment in human capital and institutional capacity-building with participation from ABG departments, civil society organisations, community leadership, youth groups and educational institutions

The participants underwent training in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization, as well as in-depth instruction on adult education and training methodologies.

Representing the Bougainville Administration at the closing ceremony, Secretary for Education Dorothy Kenneth, recognised the achievements of newly certified trainers.

“Sustainable change is not measured by numbers alone but by the quality of engagement and commitment. Each participant has invested four intensive days becoming ambassadors of data literacy for their agencies and communities," said Secretary Kenneth adding that this training is not an isolated initiative but rather the basis of a broader institutional vision.

To further this partnership, the ABG and NSO are currently collaborating on the development of a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen partnership in statistical space and more importantly, build the foundation for Bougainville to eventually establish its own Statistics Bureau.

"It is an investment in the human capital and institutional infrastructure we will need as we move toward statistical independence.”

The establishment of a Statistics Bureau will enable Bougainville to lead its own data collection, analysis, and dissemination efforts.
