Central Bougainville welcomes new constituencies in 2025 ABG General Elections

Central Bougainville joins the rest of the region as it begins the nomination process for the 5th Autonomous Bougainville Government Elections today.

This will be the start of the election process following the Issue of writs at the Bougainville House of Representatives yesterday.

According to the OBEC Regional Coordinator for Central Bougainville, Wendell Tiotorau, the number of constituencies for Central Bougainville has increased this year unlike previous years.

There will be a total of ten constituencies within Central Bougainville to contest this election unlike previous years when there were only seven.

“This change is due to creation of three new constituencies by the ABG Boundaries Commission,” he explained.

These ten constituencies of Central Bougainville include

  1. Kokoda.
  2. Kongara,
  3. North Nasioi,
  4. South Nasioi,
  5. Ioro,
  6. Eivo/Torau,
  7. Asikopan/Torau,
  8. Barawa
  9. Rotokas
  10. Rau.

Asikopan/Torau, and Rotokas are the new constituencies, whilst Barawa is not a new constituency but a change of name replacing Terra constituency.

Meanwhile, candidates are expected to begin nominations to contest the ten constituencies as well as the regional seats for ex-combatant and women today.
