Condolence Statement on the passing of the Late John Sisiesi

The Autonomous Bougainville Government conveys its deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Kunua District and Bougainville, on the passing of the late Mr. John Sisiesi.

The Late John Sisiesi was the Bougainville Boundaries Commissioner, a role in which he served with dedication until his passing. He brought to this position more than 30 years of distinguished public service to Bougainville. He also served as district manager for Selau-Suir and Kunua District.

During the restoration period, the late Mr. Sisiesi was instrumental in the peace building efforts and restoration of services on Bougainville.

A notable period of his service was in 2019, when he served as a Returning Officer with the Bougainville Referendum Commission, playing a critical role in the historic referendum process that has shaped Bougainville’s political pathway.

Under his leadership as Boundaries Commissioner, he guided the establishment of new constituencies in Bougainville, ensuring fair representation and strengthening Bougainville’s governance structures.

Mr. Sisiesi will be remembered as a humble, highly experienced, and committed public servant, who served with integrity and a deep heart for the people of Bougainville, particularly at the community government level.

The ABG acknowledges his outstanding contribution to public service and to Bougainville’s governance journey. His passing is a great loss to Bougainville. We stand with his family and loved ones in this time of sorrow and pray for comfort and peace during this difficult period.

May he rest in eternal peace.
