The Autonomous Bougainville Government will be receiving K100million as part of the National Government’s commitment to retire the outstanding constitutionally guaranteed Restoration and Development Grant (RDG).

ABG Minister for Treasury and Finance Hon. Mathias Salas announced this when delivering his budget speech in parliament this week in Buka.

“The K100M has already been allocated for projects at the Departmental headquarter level and district/regions,” Minister Salas said.

The identification of programs included in the 2022 ABG development budget was done through a bottom-up approach through consultations conducted with community governments and district officials earlier this year.

“I am confident that the programs and projects that have received allocations are based on fully vetted ABG priorities,” Salas said.

Under the 2022 ABG Development Budget, funds have been allocated as follows:

1.       Bougainville Development Program – Headquarters K84,400,00.00

2.       Bougainville Development Program – Nissan/Atolls Region K3,000,000.00

3.       Bougainville Development Program – Northern Region K4,100,00.00

4.       Bougainville Development Program – Central Region K4,050,000.00

5.       Bougainville Development Program – South Region K4,450,000.00

Key development programs at the headquarter level will include:

·         Buin Hospital upgrade

·         Upgrading and sealing of Kokopau to Itaraka highway and the Buka Ring Road

·         ABG school fee assistance program

·         Rural electrification program from Hagogohe to Halia

·         Bougainville DPI stations development

·         ABG-Kokonas Indastri Program Partnership

·         Aquaculture and Mariculture Development

·         Bougainville SME Support Program

·         Acquisition of Atolls Ship

·         Improvement to radio infrastructure

Key development programs under the Nissan/Atolls Region will include:

·         Atolls District Relief Supplies

·         Wharf Maintenance – Nuguria

·         Nuguria Airstrip maintenance

·         Nissan District Jetty redevelopment

·         Nissan Airstrip fencing

·         4x health staff houses for Atolls

Key development programs under the Northern Region will include:

·         Buka Urban Town Fire Station project

·         Ramazon to Romsis access feeder road

·         Airport to Skotolan road

·         Kunua District Hospital (survey & landscaping)

·         Selau Community Government Virgin Coconut Oil project

·         Peit Community Government Cocoa Development

·         Kunua District Cocoa and Copra Rehabilitation

Key development programs under the Central Region will include:

·         Wakunai Health Facility (construction & upgrade)

·         Wakunai District Cocoa Rehabilitation

·         Amiaming Peanut & Pineapple downstream processing

·         Tokaiang Hatchery & Breeding Farm

·         Asikopan Reforestation

·         Jaba Delta Environmental Diversion Livelihood program

·         Redevelopment of industrial hubs (Kieta & Toniva)

·         Arawa Town Solid Waste Management

·         Arawa Secondary (Computer Lab)

·         Piruana Social Development Project

Key development programs under the Southern Region will include:

·         Buin District Governance and Administration capacity development

·         Buin District Hatchery, Abbattor & Packaging (pilot project)

·         Siwai Inland Fish Farming

·         3x Community Government Office complex (Buin District)

·         Community Government office and staff houses (Torokina District)

·         Tonu Secondary (dormitory and mess extension)

·         Integrated Community Development program (Torokina District)
