Bougainville Controller issues 14-days lockdown measures

I, Clement Totavun, Secretary for Health and delegated Regional Pandemic Controller by the Chief Secretary under Section 14 and Section 56 (c), of the Bougainville Public Service (Management and Administration) Act 2014, the Pandemic Act 2020, and other enabling powers, authorized to issue the Pandemic Control Measures for a period of the 14 days lockdown on Bougainville.
The following measures shall be complied with:
- The 14-days lockdown period commences as of 12 midnight, Sunday 07th November 2021 and ceases at 12 midnight, Sunday 21st November 2021.
- All education institutions in Bougainville to continue operating in compliance to the new operating hours from 8am to 2pm, Monday to Friday until the end of the 2021 academic year.
- Buka, Arawa, Kokopau and Buin main markets shall be closed.
- Road side markets will remain open from Monday to Saturday only, from 8am to 2pm, in compliance with social/physical distancing measures. All markets are closed on Sunday.
- All businesses shall remain open from Monday to Saturday only, from 8am to 2pm, in compliance with social/physical distancing measures. All businesses are closed on Sunday.
- Hotels, Lodges, guesthouses will continue to operate after 2pm, for in-house guests only.
- All religious and sporting events are banned.
- All public motor vehicles (PMVs) and small boats will operate from 7am to 3pm. This measure supersedes measure number 8.
- The Bougainville Public Service will continue to operate from 8am to 2pm with strict compliance to COVID-19 protocols. Essential and emergency workers are exempted from this restriction when carrying out their official duties.
- Shipping services will continue to operate under existing COVID-19 and quarantine protocols
- Airline operators will be operating three weekly passenger flights into Buka Airport. Inbound flights are restricted for residents returning home and essential workers only.
- Charter flights will continue to operate under existing COVID-19 and quarantine protocols.
- A curfew is imposed from 8pm to 6am for the duration of the lockdown period.
- The Bougainville Police Service is hereby authorized to enforce these measures during this lockdown period.
All other measures which were previously issued remain in force during this lockdown period.
