Condolence Message on the passing of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku
As Bougainville embarks on its Independence Mission we are conscious of the adversity that we will come to face in this journey.
Since assuming the Bougainville Presidency I have witnessed the greatest of these challenges being the untimely loss of our leaders in the Bougainville House of Representatives.
I am saddened to have learnt of the passing of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku the Member for Haku Constituency who passed away after succumbing to a short illness.
At a time when Bougainville is on the verge of creating history, once again tragedy has struck the Autonomous Bougainville Government by the passing of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku.
The Late Hon. Xavier Kareku was part of the new crop of leaders from the younger generation who were elected into the Bougainville House of Representatives in 2020. He was a leader committed to Bougainville’s Independence Mission.
The Late Hon. Xavier Kareku was vocal about issues on good governance and development. He was a young man who believed in serving his people of Haku and Bougainville as a whole. I mourn with the people of Haku during this very difficult time.
On behalf of the Autonomous Bougainville Government and the people of Bougainville I offer our deepest sympathies to the family of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku and the people of Haku.
Nevertheless, we must pay homage to the memory of our fallen leader by continuing to persevere as a people in ensuring that the sacrifices he made as a leader were not in vain. We shall overcome these challenges and remain committed to our cause.
May God Almighty give peace to the family of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku during this time.
May the soul of the Late Hon. Xavier Kareku rest in eternal peace.
