ABG Public Servants to benefit from Leadership and Governance course funded by SPBF Inc.

The ABG Department of Personnel Management and Administrative Services is pleased to announce a partnership with the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance for Leadership and Governance (SILAG) course for Bougainville public servants this year.

This arrangement will be funded by the South Pacific Brewery Foundation (SPBF) Inc. under the Public Private Partnership arrangement between the South Pacific Brewery Ltd and the National Government though SILAG.

ABG Secretary for Personnel Management and Administrative Services Connelly Kekun, thanked the management of SPBF, SILAG and the National Department of Personnel Management for the commitment which signifies an important milestone is the ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the public service workforce.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to South Pacific Brewery for their remarkable investment towards this program. Your commitment to the development of our public servants is truly commendable, and your partnership with the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance, exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and shared responsibility towards building a stronger and more capable public service on Bougainville,” he said.

“This sponsored training program comes at a crucial juncture for us, as we strive to navigate the complexities of governance and leadership in a rapidly evolving socio-political landscape. By equipping our public servants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively lead and govern, we not only strengthen the foundation of our public institutions but also empower individuals to make meaningful contributions towards the advancement of our communities and the realization of our collective aspirations.”

“Our public servants are the backbone of our government, and their continuous growth and development are essential for driving positive change and delivering quality services to our citizens” Secretary Kekun said.

The Certificate in Leadership and Governance Course is a tailored and targeted leadership training program designed to help develop young leaders who wish to take up leadership roles in their respective environment and to build up knowledge and skills related to the government.

John Nilkare, Corporate Affairs Manager at SP Brewery, stated that SPBF Inc had funded the training of over 180 public servants across four regions, with a commitment of K1.7m over the past six years, including this year's funding for the 7th Cohort in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. He expressed that ABG is a crucial stakeholder for the Brewery, and they are pleased to contribute to the capacity building of ABG's public servants.
