ABG responds to former employee Ms Wakia’s allegations at court

The Autonomous Bougainville Government wishes to clarify recent media reports concerning allegations of contempt of court related to a reinstatement order involving Nancy Warkia.

First and foremost, we respect and uphold the decisions of the Courts and remain committed to acting in full compliance according to law.

The ABG has refrained from commenting and reporting on this in the media as these matters remain sub judice.

However, it is now compelled to come out and provide clarification because of the dissemination of incomplete and misleading information in the media.

The matter in question pertains to a court order directing the reinstatement of Nancy Warkia to the Bougainville Public Service. Ms. Warkia’s former position – Director for Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination, was a contracted position and the contract had lapsed/expired on 30 June 2023.

As such the reinstatement of Ms. Warkia to her contractual position which has lapsed is still in Court.

We emphasize that there is no intentional or willful non-compliance with the court order.

Should there be any ambiguity regarding the order’s execution, ABG is fully prepared to seek further clarification from the court to ensure its compliance within the bounds of the law.

We are also concerned about the dissemination of incomplete or misleading information in the media, which could misrepresent the facts and tarnish the reputation of the ABG.

While we respect the right to free speech, we urge all parties to approach this matter responsibly and in a manner that promotes a fair resolution.

ABG remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and due process. We appeal for understanding as we continue to address this matter within the appropriate legal framework
