ABG signs MoU for state land allocation for construction of Buin Regional Hospital

The Autonomous Bougainville Government has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure in South Bougainville by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the allocation of ABG state land in Buin Town for the construction of the Buin Regional Hospital.

The MOU establishes the terms under which the ABG will allocate the required state land area currently under both the ABG Departments of Health and Primary Industries respectively in Buin Town.

The construction of the Buin Regional Hospital is funded under the Asian Development Bank’s Health Sector improvement program, and is planned to be a Level 4 facility with space for 120 beds and 36 staff houses.

Under the terms of the agreement, the ABG Department of Primary Industries will set aside a section of its currently allocated Portion 47 State land in Buin town specifically and exclusively for the hospital, with an added commitment to remove any existing infrastructure or agricultural crops from the subdivided section to facilitate the construction of the hospital.

The ABG Department of Lands and Physical Planning will facilitate the subdivision of the separated land and reallocate it to the ABG Department of Health.

This milestone signifies a strong commitment from the ABG and its partners to enhance health services for the people of South Bougainville, highlighting a firm dedication to ensuring a smooth and successful process is adhered to for this key health infrastructure project.
