Australian High Commissioner to PNG His Excellency John Feakes arrived in Buka yesterday on his first official visit to the region since his appointment.

He was received by the Acting Chief Secretary of the Autonomous Bougainville Government Kearneth Nanei and the Minister for Public Service Hon Amanda Masono.

Mr. Nanei welcomed the High Commissioner to the shores of Bougainville and thanked the Australian government for their continued support towards the development and aspirations of Bougainville.

“Your visit here signifies your continued support and friendship that we in Bougainville continue to receive and we truly appreciate. It is an honour to have you visit our region, although a short visit, we hope you enjoy your stay and get to see the support your government continues to provide across the region,” he said.

Minister Masono shared similar sentiments on behalf of the ABG President and Bougainville Executive Council, adding that despite the challenges and short comings that Bougainville and Australia continue to have, that support and efforts made to serve humanity continues to be the level ground that binds the shared relationship.

His Excellency John Feakes is in the region to officiate the opening of the Community Government Hall for Ioro 2, in Central Bougainville today.
