OBEC assures to have all pending payments for 2023 South Bougainville Former Combatants Seat By-Election paid soon
The Office of the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner has assured to have all pending payments for the 2023 South Bougainville Former Combatants Seat By-Election paid soon.
"In my follow up meeting with the Caretaker Secretary for Finance early this week, i requested that the funds be made available to OBEC as soon as the ABG accounts are open so pending payments can be made for election officials as well as service providers," said Acting Electoral Commissioner, Mr Desmond Tsianai.
"I apologise for the delay in settling all pending payments for the by-election and in having all these brought forward to 2024."
"I understand the frustrations by election officials and service providers over delayed payments but I also appeal to all service providers and election officials to remain calm as we await the ABG Department of Finance to give us the green light to proceed with pending payments."
Acting Commissioner Mr Tsianai, while commending all service providers and temporary election workers for the successful delivery of the by-election in 2023 said it is only a matter of time before all pending payments will be made and all must remain calm at this time.
"Since the Caretaker Secretary has given his reassurance in my recent meeting with him to have all pending payments made, I once again ask all election officials and service providers to bear with us just a little more while we work with ABG Finance Department to sort out the payments."
