Petereric Andrew was officially sworn in today as the Chief Collector of Tax in the Bougainville Public Service.

During the ceremony, ABG President His Excellency Ishmael Toroama extended his congratulations to Mr. Andrew, emphasizing the critical role of taxation in Bougainville’s economic future.

He noted that with the various development projects currently underway, such as the granting of the exploration license for the Panguna redevelopment, it is imperative that a robust taxation regime be established promptly.

President Toroama also highlighted the importance of the Anchoring Bougainville Economy program, noting that taxation is a key component of this initiative.

In his remarks, Mr. Andrew expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this new role.

“This is an important moment for me,” he said. “I assure you of my highest level of commitment and dedication to my duties to contribute constructively in terms of building capacity, strengthening the internal control measures of the tax office, and establishing the relevant legislation and administrative frameworks aimed at maximizing revenue for the Bougainville Government. This will ensure better quality services can be delivered to the people of Bougainville.”

Mr. Andrew’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the ABG seeks to strengthen its economic foundations and enhance service delivery through improved revenue collection.
