Sir Jerry Mataparae welcomed by ABG Officials ahead of Bougainville visit

United Nations engaged Moderator, Sir Jerry Mataparae was warmly welcomed by ABG Chief Secretary, Kearnneth Nanei, and Secretary for Bougainville Independence Mission, Stephanie Elizah, today in Port Moresby.
Sir Jerry is in the country this week to firm up his preparations on his role as the Moderator to moderate talks between the Papua New Guinea and Autonomous Bougainville Governments in relation to the ratification of the Bougainville referendum results.
Aside from this, Sir Jerry is also taking the time to meet the heads of the National and Bougainville government administrations and also plan with the ABG team, his upcoming visit to Bougainville, planned for November this year.
ABG Chief Secretary Nanei thanked Sir Jerry for his plans to visit Bougainville next month.
"We look forward to your visit. Come meet our people, our women, youth, veterans, and churches, just to name a few. "
Sir Jerry's visit provides the opportunity for Bougainvilleans to interact with him and be informed firsthand on his role as the moderator.
"We are appreciative that with UN facilitating your preparations, we are guaranteed on the integrity of the process and your role as an independent, impartial, and neutral moderator."
Sir Jerry returns to New Zealand on October 24 and will prepare for his trip next month to PNG to visit Bougainville.
