Statement from the ABG Attorney General: Bougainville did not request JSB deferment

I am disturbed by the Prime Ministers media statement, responding to the Opposition Leader and saying the Bougainville Team had requested for the deferment of the Joint Supervisory Body to Wednesday 8th May 2024.

These are the facts:

1. Minister Makiba called me in the middle of the night stating the Prime Minister had requested the JSB deferred to Wednesday and that he was waiting on the Presidents agreement.

2. I then alerted the President and after having considered his timetable, agreed to the request for deferment.

3. I relayed President’s consent to Minister Makiba at 12 midnight.

4. To now say we requested the deferral is a lie.

5. Bougainville as usual is always prepared.

6. National Government as usual wasn't.

7. The Joint Technical Team meeting set for last Friday was moved to Sunday evening because National Departmental Heads defied their Chief Secretary and didn't show up.

8. These sort of lies impinges on the integrity of the Bougainville Leadership, particularly the President.

9. The PM should ask his Minister. He might have been misled by his Minister.

Hon. Ezekiel Masatt, MHR
ABG Attorney General and Minister for Bougainville Independence Mission
