The ABG Department of Mining and Petroleum (DMP), formerly called the Department of Mineral & Energy Resources (DOMER), has now set up a coordination office in Arawa Town, located at Section 15.

Department Secretary Mr. Peter Kolotein announced this today.

The movement to Arawa was also declared by the President and Minister for Mining & Energy Hon. Ishmael Toroama earlier this year, in announcing the government’s decision to grant Exploration Licence (EL-01) over the Panguna project to Bougainville Copper Limited (BCL).

“Given the nature of the Panguna project, its legacy and size, the EL-01 Panguna Project requires consistent community and stakeholder engagement, stakeholder support and project monitoring for the project’s successful progression during its five-year exploration tenure”, Secretary Kolotein said.

The Arawa office is manned by the department’s Development Coordination Division, responsible for project development and coordination support to stakeholders.

Besides this, the establishment of the Arawa Coordination office will also allow for improved efficiency in regulatory operations by the department for all other licensed projects and mineral related activities.

The office commenced Arawa operations on Monday 20^th of May 2024.
